Annual Cape Cod Trip

Every year we take our summer vacation at Cape Cod. See here for last year's debacle upon returning to Randolph! And here for all the 2007 pictures. My grandparents retired to Cotuit in the early 1970's, building this house on a gorgeous spot on "Shoestring Bay".
I've been to this place every summer just about for the last 40 years! Now my parents own the house and my kids love to come as much as I did and still do!
There's tons to do on Cape Cod. This year the biggest hit was my parents' swimming pool. But we also spent time on the beach in front of their home.
We kayaked. Austen and Peter have become experts and ferried around their sisters!
Every year we go miniature golfing at "Pirates Cove". This year Austen counted our scores and reported that I (Gerry) won. It was a misunderstanding, "D" had the lowest score, but that meant my "Dad" and not Austen's (me). The next lowest was "G", which Austen thought meant "Grandpapa" but really meant "Gerry".
We also went to the Four Seas, a great ice cream place. The all time favorite here is coconut ice cream. They were out of my favorite banana.
Last year my parents bought a motor boat which we used to motor around the area, finally anchoring just off the channel. I swam ashore first with Peter, then with Austen. Cora came out for a swim too!

Here's the view from the back deck.
I can't resist these pictures! The girls were trying to look like the girl in that famous Wyeth painting of the girl looking up to the farmhouse from the grassy field. Pretty close, don't you think?
They are facing the wrong direction, but don't you think that is what Wyeth's Christina's facial expression would be?
Usually we go to a Cotuit Kettleers baseball game. As usual Austen was more into his book! Click here for the recent interview with Austen about his latest book he is working on.

We all had a great time. You can tell by the contented looks on their faces as all the kids fell fast asleep on the ride home. This year was a wonderful trip. Although the kids missed seeing their cousins, they got quality time with their grandparents. We'll make plans to see the cousins soon and count our blessings for a wonderful trip. Thanks, Mom and Dad for having us come down again this year!
