Summer TKD camp has been a definite high point of our last 2 summers! Its a chance to camp in a beautiful spot with a great group of families. The weekend is packed with daytime Tae Kwan Do classes and family events and the evenings bring a chance to sit by the camp fire and relax. Friday night is black belt testing night. Testing for black belt can only happen at Summer camp or Winter camp, so that many current black belts have a chance to attend and judge the candidates. This year, members of our dojang tested for confirmed black belt (first degree) and second degree black belt. Congratulations to Kimberly and Jennifer!
Saturday is full of events beginning with Opening Ceremonies at 7 AM. The first year campers are have tape placed over their noses to show their status and by the end of camp, when they finally take off the tape, the sun has tanned all around the tape leaving a tape shaped white spot. This year Cora was a rookie and she enjoyed the good natured hazing. One of the funnest things is the Giant Slip and Slide that is set up on the hill for the kids to slide on on Saturday afternoon.
Before lunch there is a push-up session in the river and later a belly flop contest. Saturday afteroon has full contact sparring and drills. Saturday night is the much looked forward to Dodge ball contest. This year Gerry's team was undefeated and took home first place. Master Chase and Miss Chase took home first prize in the cribbage contest.
Sunday brings more drills, which included kids self-defense, form drills. Gerry, Austen and Peter practiced their Tae guek Sa Jang (Form 4) while Cora learned Tae guek Il Jang (1). We had a great time and all the kids want us to go camping more often!
